Our 2021-2022 Recipient

NEW LIFE REFUGE

Each year Charity League thoughtfully selects a local charity to be the recipient of our annual fundraising campaign. Charity League is delighted to announce New Life Refuge as the recipient of our 2021-2022 fundraising efforts!

What New Life Refuge Does

The New Life Refuge Ministries Campus is a place of long term care where children have survived being sex trafficked can process their trauma and transition into healthy lifestyles. Since 2018, NLRM has operated the Home of Hope for female trafficking survivors ages 11-17. This home is located on 40 acres in an undisclosed South Texas location. They have a team of experts that devise individual treatment programs for each resident that are designed to meet each child’s unique needs. The home provides for the girls’ daily needs and many therapeutic, life enriching activities. The house parents truly have a heart for this mission and support the girls 24 hours a day. They are trained in Trauma-Informed care and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) as well as many other healing modalities. All of the staff works diligently to ensure the healing path and safety of those they serve.

Funds Used

The plan for Charity League’s fundraising efforts is to add a “village” of transitional housing cabins to the current refuge campus. This project will provide 4 unfinished cabins as well as fund their finishing work, the well, electricity, and the paving work. The village will allow for the survivors who reach the age of 18 to continue on their healing path, rather than having to move away from their crucial support system. The village project will provide appropriate housing for the survivors transitioning to adulthood with a measure of independence and adult responsibilities, all without surrendering the network of safety and support they have with counselors, mentors, staff, and friends.

Education Program

The Educational Program at New Life Refuge utilizes a multi-platform approach to increase community awareness about recognizing and preventing child sex trafficking. They provide tools and training to engage community involvement and advocate to end the demand for child exploitation.
